Here We Are Boston!

For Mama's Christmas present, she got a trip to Boston. We figured a Celtics fan that loyal deserves it, and this year they've been doing great. Naturally it had to be a surprise, and my always clever and industrious husband composed a letter which we emailed to Mama on Christmas Day. I had quite deliberately told no one, but had to let Stephanie in on the surprise so she could intercept the email and print out the letter. I had hoped to somehow put a link to the letter on here, but don't see that I can do it. It is, of course, hilarious. We called Mama and had her get on speakerphone with everyone there and read the letter. Steve wrote it as a riddle, so she had different clues to help her guess. Needless to say, she was caught completely off guard. She even shed a tear. :-)

We met in Boston (Mama had to hoof it through the Charlotte airport for her connecting flight - was the last one on her plane), and took the subway to the hotel. Public transportation is fantastic there. Had some great seafood that night, and conked out. Game time was 1 pm, and they didn't open the doors till an hour before time. It was snowing/raining when we got there, but we hung around outside for a bit. They had a basketball net setup outside that you could get in line to try to shoot the ball in from the free line, I think. My manly husband was quite sure his athletic skills were up to the challenge, so he got in line. Well, I'm quite sad to report that he airballed it. But they gave Carson a little basketball anyway. I think they were trying to soften the intense disappointment they expected him to have in his daddy. Just kidding, of course. He did airball it, but still in fine form.

As I said before, the doors didn't open till an hour before game time, so we hung out with a few hundred of our closest friends in the outer part of the Garden. We finally made our way in, walked around a bit, then settled in our fantastic seats - almost midcourt, row 16. Since it was so early, I was able to go down into the rows on the floor. They only ran you off it you hung over the chairs lining the floor. While I was down there, the rest of my crew got their pictures on the big Jumbotron!! I missed it! However I totally shone later in the game - they released these dolls from the rafters that floated down with attached parachutes. The couple sitting by me said they never come in our section. Well today one did, and yours truly caught it!! Everyone was quite impressed with my athletic prowess.

The Celtics won the game, even without Kevin Garnett. We had so much fun, and Carson was good the whole time. Thank goodness for that doll I caught.

That night we went out for some good Italian food at a restaurant the lady next to me recommended. The next day was spent at the Aquarium, which was literally next door to our hotel. The Aquarium was outstanding. Then back to the airport, and home.

I asked for a corner room, which was supposed to be a bigger room. Turned out great. Two double beds, and a pull out sofa bed. When you pulled out the sofa bed, that gave Carson three beds to jump one from the other. We were on the bottom floor and back in a corner, so didn't have to worry so much about noise. He traveled many miles making the jumping rounds of those beds.

What a whirlwind trip - and what a trip to remember.
