Nighttime Routines

Carson has begun taking showers almost every night instead of a bath. A couple months back he heard that his cousin Zach was taking showers instead of baths now, and I think that planted that little seed. It's been good because he's gotten great at getting his head completely under the flow of water, which will help when we tackle swimming lessons again.

He usually lines up about eight little cars in the shower and proceeds to drown them, knock them off the sides, or some other such not so gentle play. He crabs pretty much every time he has to get out, and it's usually when there's nothing but cold water left. I have no idea how he does it.

He also has an amazing ability to need to poop either right before or during bath time, and he usually wants the door closed. Grandpa and Grandma sent him a gift card to the bookstore for Valentine's Day, so we went the other night and bought two Little Critter Books, My Trip to the Hospital and I was So Mad, and Where the Wild Things Are. He especially loves the Little Critter books; he already had one. So these past couple of nights when it's been time to do his business, he's asked me to bring him those books. Last night he read all of I Was So Mad aloud. The door was cracked, so Steve and I were peeping through the crack listening and watching him. He reads it pretty much like I read it to him - it's like I'm listening to myself.

His bedtime routine has also changed. Flying like an airplane to his bed and then doing Inch Worm with poor Daddy is gone. Now when we finish reading, Steve becomes a "plump" in our bed (pulls the covers over his head), Carson jumps on top of him, then takes off running and screaming like a banshee and jumps in his bed. I really hope the neighbors don't hear this cause I'm sure it sounds like we're beating the tar out of Carson. After prayers and singing, Steve gets Frog (filled with those cushy squishy round feeling things), and shoots Carson with the leg like a laser, then turns around and farts Frog at him. Much hilarity ensues. Then Frog is thrown at Carson, who proceeds to shoot and fart Frog at me. We're such wild and crazy folk.

It used to be he just lay there quietly and rubbed his black blanket with his hands or on his face while I was patting his back. Now we have quite interesting conversations. Well mostly one sided diatribes where he just expounds on the most interesting things. Jason gave him a Buzz Lightyear animated movie for Christmas, and he usually talks about this movie. I don't think he quite gets yet when things are pretend and not real.

The other night he said, "Do you know that there are snails that will climb in your ear and eat your sound? I'm not kidding." That was pretty much the most bizarre one.

This picture is priceless! And the warning about the snail stealing sound, that's pretty deep! I can't wait to hear him read.
