Visitors

Allison and her boyfriend Jeremy came to see us a couple of weeks ago for a skiing vacation. They got here on Friday afternoon and left Wednesday morning. We ate dinner at Squatters - good beer, good food. Friday was a long day for them, so they were both in bed around 8:45.

Allison, Jeremy and I headed up to The Canyons Saturday morning for a great day of skiing. Jeremy has never been on skis, and it's been a couple of years for Allison, so they were going to hang out on the pretty much one green slope. I caught back up with them at lunch. Jeremy was doing great! We headed home later that day, so a full day of skiing, with good, heavy snow. Skiing of course wears you out, so they were both in bed around 8:30.

Sunday morning Steve, Allison and Jeremy headed back to The Canyons. Carson had an afternoon lesson with Miss Heather again, so he and I got there in time for that. Jeremy and Allison tried out some blue slopes today. Around 3:20 or so, Steve and I headed to the bottom of the hill to try to meet up with Heather and Carson, but they were nowhere to be found. I finally went in the lodge, and they were there in the corner. Carson was passed out like she had drugged him, just laying on her shoulder. She said he made it to about 3:15, then just zonked out. She said he did great again. As I said before, that skiing is hard work, so Jeremy and Allison were both in bed around 8:30.

Monday I was tired, so Jeremy and Allison went up to ski at Park City, and I just took the day off. I took Carson to school, then headed to the Original Pancake House, where I had some delicious banana pancakes. I then went here and there, and there and here, and made it home around 4:15. Allison and Jeremy got home right after that. After another day of skiing Jeremy and Allison were both in bed around 8:45.

Tuesday morning, the snow absolutely started dumping out of the sky. I didn't feel comfortable driving up to Park City, and skiing in that heavy snow wasn't any of our cups of tea (Steve would have liked to go snow boarding, but without me to help him find his way up there he didn't go either). Took me 45 minutes to take Carson to school - five to drive home. Allison, Jeremy and I picked up Carson mid afternoon and headed down to Sugarhouse Park for some sledding. The snow was so beautiful, and much thicker than last time. That made for slower sledding but still lots of fun. Since there were four of us and only one sled, and since Carson does not like to share sleds, I needed some more. My dear friend Jolie let me plunder their house for sleds and boots for Carson. After a couple of hours we headed home to get ready to go to Carson's favorite restaurant, the Game Restaurant, aka The Sky Box. We had one of the best dinners we've had there (the bar is not raised very high there, so that's not saying a lot). But first, we built a snowman in the side yard. Grandma and Grandpa had sent Carson a snowman kit for either his birthday or Christmas, so we finally got to use it. I personally thought it was a fine snowman, but Allison said he looked like a sweet potato, and Steve called it something equally flattering, like a column. The prospect of an early morning means Jeremy and Allison were both in bed around 8:45 (have you noticed a common theme here yet??)

We teased Allison and Jeremy that they got more sleep than Carson! They were asleep almost every night before I finished putting him to bed, and slept far later. They got at least 12 hours a day. Oh, to sleep like that again... Carson and I took them to the airport, and they actually made it home as scheduled.

We had a great visit with them. Jeremy is just a fine, upstanding young man (that is what you told me to say, right Jeremy?) and Carson sure loved him. I think that's quite the measure of a person when they know how to engage a child, which means Jeremy got very high marks in my book.

Come back soon!

Hi Cindy, Steve, and Carson:

Visited the Burian Clan Blog site - for the first time in a long time.

Enjoyed the photos of Carson with the Snowman, drawing the whale, skiing, and noted Steve's new beard....With the ski outfit on he looked like an article explorer or U-Boat Commander.

Interesting point about Steve's Beard is that he apparently has my gene - re: red beard, which is different than our head hair colors.

See ya, Dad

In addition to Jeremy being a "fine, upstanding young man" he also happens to be ITALIAN! Scores major points in my book as well. Go, Allison! ~Emily

What a fun family time. Even makes the snow look inviting. And the snowman looks like he has been dieting!

Carson,

I like your batting style, and your swing looks solid and on the mark - and with your eyes focused downward on the ball - meaning line drives..

Wow, a SOX T-Ball player! what will Uncle Jason think?
