We finally decided to have our yard landscaped. We live on a corner and have two long park strips. (Park strips are the area between the sidewalk and street). We also have a sort of side yard between the driveway and the fence to the south. All these areas were just grass, and the side yard was mostly unused. So to make our yard more usable, and also more environmentally friendly, (grass sucks down LOTS of water to keep it pretty, and my husband is a water guy who's trying to save the earth, so...)we wanted the grass in the park strips ripped out and replaced with drought tolerant plants, and the side yard transformed somehow into a usable space.
We hired a landscape designer to come up with something, then he hooked us up with a landscape contractor to actually do the work. (No, Steve and I weren't doing any of this. We wanted it actually finished before we died.) Rick made the most fantastic looking plan, and Rob turned that plan into reality.
The work started the last week of June and took about 6 weeks. The pictures will hopefully give you an idea of how beautiful it is. The plants have already grown so much.
Here are some befores, durings and afters.
