Mama's visit / Halloween

I think I'll start with Mama's (Mimi, to Carson) visit, which was very recent. She came the Wednesday before Halloween, left the day after Halloween. Every time she comes to visit, she gets sick when she gets home. We thought this would be different, but no. :-( Ended up at the doctor who told her she has bronchitis, etc, gave her a shot in the butt, and some various meds.

But! While she was here it was great. Weather was so nice. We drove the Alpine Loop - first time for me. Should have done it about a month ago, cause almost all the leaves were gone. But it was still beautiful. Tiny road, lots of switchbacks. At about the highest point, the aspens were huge, and that's almost all there was. A pine dropped in here and there. We took a side trip to Cascade Springs. How wonderful! Springs literally cascading down the hillside. It's maintained by the Park Service. There was a boardwalk across the water at the bottom, then we climbed the paved path a bit so we could really see the springs. There appeared to be a lot of paved trail around there, so I want to go back sometime to hike all around there. We stopped at Sundance on the way out. Had a bit to eat, and watched the Mexican artists blow glass fish out back. We timed our drive well - they closed the Loop a few days later for the winter.

October 30 was our anniversary. Mama stayed with Carson while we went to La Caille for dinner. Talk about a waste of money. The grounds and the restaurant were beautiful, but the food was just about less than average. The waitress, though nice, would have been more at home at Denny's. She took our order on a little white diner pad! Her dress was ripped on one side. Speaking of dress, it was so silly. The women all had some sort of bodice that gave them boobs up to their eyelids, and the guys wore knickers. And these weren't nice, neat clothes. They seriously looked thrown together, worn and old. And the food. It wasn't terrible, but my $50 duck would have been far better priced at $15. So at least we can say, Been there, done that.

Halloween day the preschool had a costume parade. Carson was Buzz Lightyear! We didn't give him his costume till about the Friday before, which was good, because he lived in it from then on. Just in the past couple of days has he not worn it. He was of course cute as a button, as were all the other children. This Halloween was the first that's he's REALLY gotten into it, since of course he's older now. We went around one side of the block and came in to dump the goods and rest for a few minutes. Our neighbors Sean and Melanie came by with their crowd to trick or treat, and Sean asked if Carson could go with them. He hopped right up and took off! Another sign of growing up that he would go somewhere without Mommy. He ended up with a good haul, even though he lost plenty of it to peanut/nut infection.

The Thursday night before Steve, our friend Paul, and I went to the Rocky Point Haunted House. They've been doing this yearly for like a thousand years, and this was the last year. It was great!! Very professional. I don't think my heart would have taken one more scary person jumping out at me!

It was hard to send Mama home. Next time she must come for at least 10 days, and I'll slowly expand her till she's here for a month. :-)
