Show and Tell

Friday is Show and Tell at preschool. Last weekend we were shopping at WalMart and Carson got sucked in (so of course so did I) by bubble bath Lightning McQueen (from the movie Cars - he loved that movie). The car is pretty big - maybe a foot long - wheels roll, everything. So he sleeps with it every night, and today wanted to take it to Show and Tell. So I'm sure the teachers are loving me for bringing a toy filled with bubble bath to be played with by 15 3 and 4 year olds...

He didn't want to wear long sleeves today even though it was all of 37 degrees when we went to school. A threat of no Show and Tell squashed that fit.

One of his classmates, Theo, has a Buzz Lightyear that pretty much stays at school. His mom is the assistant director, so she has a desk and Buzz stays there. This Buzz apparently puts Carson's Buzzes to shame. Carson's are actually two way radios, so they don't do much more than this, though they are still cool in their own right. Theo's is taller, his buttons all say something when you push them, all his joints are moveable and poseable, and best of all - his laser works!! So every morning we tiptoe in there so Carson can play with Buzz for a couple of minutes and shoot me up with the laser, then he tells Steve to be "early" (actually late - he's still getting concepts like late/early, beginning/end, today/tomorrow ironed out) so he can be the last kid and play with Buzz! Tonight we were going to dinner so Steve picked him up just the least bit earlier than usual. He said Carson collapsed in a absolute weeping pile of small child because Steve came too early and cut into Buzz time!

Dinner out was at a fairly new restaurant called The Flying Scotsman. We had read a pretty bad review of them, but then I found a positive one, so we thought What the heck - someone starts playing bagpipes at 7 so it can't be all bad. We ended up having a good time. The meal was quite acceptable, the atmosphere was very friendly and family like, and once the bagpipe player started - well, Carson was totally riveted. The fellow played a big set of 100 year old bagpipes which were quite loud, then changed to a smaller set that provided very nice dinner music. He showed them to us and talked about them. They were really quite interesting. In fact, I think Steve plans to take them up as his next hobby. He has a lot of hot air that might as well go to something useful.

Carson's night was topped off when he got to go pick out a prize from the Treasure Box. The place will be a repeat.

Buzz Lightyear rules in Carson's world, Steven. Better realize that now - dad is great, but Buzz, well.........
